Paul Tiell Obituary

Paul L. Butch Tiell

Butch was born Paul Leo Tiell Jr. in Tiffin, June 28, 1952, to Rita Rose (Kuhn) and Paul L. Tiell Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. On May 19, 1978, he married Linda Sue Wilch, and she survives. Together they had three sons, Jonathan (Tami), Kevin (Melissa) and Stephen, who died July 1, 2011.

He graduated from New Riegel High School in 1970 and joined the Army as an MP that summer. After serving two tours in Vietnam, he returned home and worked as a caster for 36 years at American Standard, retiring when the company closed, to help take care of his mother.

When Butch wasn't playing cards or socializing with his friends, he could be found outdoors until his health declined to the point where he couldn't get around safely. He loved to hunt, coon, coyote, deer, groundhogs, etc., farm, fish, cut wood, look for relics or mushrooms, and had many great hunting dogs in his lifetime. His favorite coon dog was Puppy, who mourned his absence when Butch left for the Army, but perked right up when he returned. Butch thoroughly enjoyed going to the grandkids' sports events, and there were always old friends there for him to socialize with. Since he loved to just 'drive around', garage saling was a great pastime for him. The only problem was that if you asked him to be on the lookout for something, he'd bring you back at least three of them! Butch was very proud of Steve when he joined the Army in 2003, and they bonded over their experiences.

Also surviving are sisters Mary Carr and Catherine Kline; brother Mike; grandsons Hayden Tiell, Levi Tiell, Logan Risner, and Ryan Risner; granddaughters, Madison Dyer, Kaydence Allen, Hailey Kirian, Roxanne Tiell, Hannah Risner, and Leah Risner; and great-grandkids, Raylynn, Haisley, Mallory and Zaiden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to FACT (through the Legacy Bike Ride via Linda Tiell), Honor Flight, or to any nature conservation organization, such as planting a tree in Butch's memory.

A special thank you to Drs. Sharon Cole and David Deitz, and their assistants, Jenny Kirian and Vicki Rumpler, plus all the nurses who cared for him so compassionately and became special friends throughout his eleven-plus-year battle.

Friends may visit with family from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2026, at All Saints Parish in New Riegel, with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, and conclude with a dinner at AMVETS, 1909 OH 100, Tiffin, OH 44883.

Condolences may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.hgmackfuneralhome.com.
