Betty Messersmith

Betty J. Messersmith, 81, of Tiffin, died at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at home. She was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Tiffin, to Paul and Ethel (St. Clair) Webb. She married Kenneth G. Messersmith on Aug. 30, 1958, and he survives in Tiffin.

Surviving are the following children, Rusty Messersmith of McCutchenville, Randy Messersmith of McCutchenville, Beth (David) Wertz of rural Sycamore, and Lisa (Todd) Messersmith of McCutchenville; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cora Orr of rural McCutchenville and Clara Ray of Lexington, Kentucky; and brother, Don Webb of Tiffin; stepbrother, Raymond (Della) Myers of Carey; and two stepsisters, Martha (Gary Perry) Stansberry of Tiffin and Mary (Alan) Beam of Tiffin. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Susan Messersmith; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one stepbrother; and one stepsister.

She retired from the former Westinghouse and AO Smith, Upper Sandusky, after working 25 years. She was then was a bartender at Sycamore American Legion for eight years.

She was a former member of Sycamore American Legion. For hobbies, she loved to take gambling trips and she played bingo for many years in Sycamore on Friday nights. She helped her husband at flea markets, loved to play euchre, and go camping. She loved all the holidays, especially Christmas Eve when she would have the whole family every year, but most of all, she just loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Betty's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 24, 2022, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Amy Vittorio officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, McCutchenville. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, at the funeral home.
