Edward Burnside Obituary

Edward H. Burnside

Edward H. Burnside, 90, formerly of Sycamore, died at 8:23 a.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

He was born July 5, 1931, in Seneca County, to Warren and Edith (Helle) Burnside. He married Ruth (Weaver) Burnside on Oct. 24, 1954, and she died July 18, 1983.

Edward is survived by four children, Debra (Jeffrey) Garber of Sycamore, Susan (Michael) Tyrpak of Venice, Florida, Philip (Tina) Burnside of Kenton, and David (Nilda) Burnside of Portsmouth, Virginia; four grandchildren, Cory Welter, Eric Welter, Stephanie Burnside, and Raeanna Garber; two great-grandchildren, Kylee Welter and Adrianna Welter; four siblings, Preston Burnside of Tiffin, Gerald (Eileen) Burnside of Tiffin, Virginia (Robert) Sherman of Tiffin, and Sharon Burnside of Tiffin; and two sisters-in-law, Janice Burnside of Tiffin and Diane Weaver of Upper Sandusky.

Ed was preceded in death by a son, Brian Burnside in 1961; brother, Willis Burnside; and two sisters, Annabelle and Carolyn Burnside.

Ed was a ware hustler for the former American Standard, Tiffin, retiring after 34 years. He was a 1949 graduate of Melmore High School, where over his four years of playing basketball, he scored over 1,000 points. He was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ where he played dartball for the church and two other dartball leagues in the area. He loved to bowl and was a founding member of Sycamore Horseshoe Club. He was a groundskeeper for Sycamore American Legion and the Sycamore Community Ballfields. He also coached various ball teams throughout his life. He also ran the chain gang for many junior high and high school football games for Mohawk High School. He was nominated into the inaugural class in 1998 for the Mohawk Hall of Fame. He loved Mohawk sports in general and attended almost all the games if possible. Ed's legacy continued beyond his personal athletic career to be Mohawk's No. 1 Sports Fan.

Ed's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Darrin Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Sycamore Cemetery.

Ed and his family were great neighbors to us growing up in sycamore. Whether it was playing wiffleball with us, telling us about dart ball, or giving us the evil eye for breaking another window during wiffleball. Huge heart for sports and his family. Haven´t see him in a long time but lasting impression on this kid ! My sympathy to Phillip Dave Stephanie and Debbie as well as the entire family and community. Thanks for sharing him with us.
