Harold A. Coppus Jr.

Harold A. Coppus Jr., 95, of Fostoria, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at Independence House, Fostoria.

He was born June 23, 1927, in Fostoria, to Harold A. and Gertrude V. (Jordan) Coppus Sr. After dating for six years, he married Lois Aileen Sperow on Sept. 9, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom.

Harold's survivors include his sons, Richard (Connie) Coppus and Michael (Karen) Coppus, both of Tiffin, David (Sandy) Coppus of Bascom, and Roger Coppus, Kenneth (Debra) Coppus, and John (Laurie) Coppus, all of Fostoria; daughter, Janet Strausbaugh of Upper Sandusky; brother, Donovan (Shirley) Coppus of Fostoria; sister, Karen Gerona of Florida; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois Aileen Coppus; brothers, Duane Coppus and James Coppus; sister, Betty Libby; and great-grandson, Bryce David Coppus.

Harold was a 1946 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. He was a life-time farmer, raising livestock and shorthorn cattle with his brother, Donovon. Growing up, Harold was a member of St. John's UCC, Fostoria. He was an excavator and owned Coppus Dozing, was a Loudon Twp. Trustee for nine years, enjoyed trips to the Amish Country, visiting the Smoky Mountains, bowling, and golfing.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at All Saints Parish with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Bascom.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Bascom EMS, Bridge Hospice, or charity of the donor's choice.

I still think of Harold often, the sweetest and friendliest neighbor you could ask for.
I am glad his son is there waving everytime we see each other outdoors.
May God continue to bless all of you, you all are kind .

I miss looking and waving at Harold ,& talking with him at the mailbox.
He would say we better quit meeting like this or the neighbors are going to talk. With that big smile on his face, I said that's okay,it gives them something to talk about. He was a very good neighbor.

I am sorry for your loss,I thoroughly enjoyed having him as my neighbor all these years. My prayers and sympathy to all of you during this time of loss and sorrow.
I am so glad I went to see him before I went to South Carolina. We had a wonderful visit.
