Karen Cooley Obituary
Karen P. Cooley (Galvin), 89, passed away peacefully Friday, April 19, 2024, in Bonita Springs, Florida.
She was born March 16, 1935, in Kane, Pennsylvania, to Yvonne and John Galvin. Karen graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1957 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. She married Jack Cooley on Dec. 12, 1957. After moving to Ohio, Karen became a longtime Health and P.E. teacher at Fremont Ross High School and spent the majority of her time living in Burgoon.
Karen spent her retirement moving to Fort Myers, Florida. She was involved in her community of Jamaica Bay, volunteering in the library and serving as a Jamaica Bay Club membership representative. She especially enjoyed her Saturday morning Coffee Klatch and Fit Camp groups. Karen also enjoyed the fitness center and the pool. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking cookies for others, and giving back to the community by regularly donating blood.
Karen is survived by three sons, Tim Cooley (Beck) of Fostoria, Steve Cooley (Rose) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Shawn Cooley (Angela) of Springfield, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Mike Cooley, Phil Cooley (Casey), Stephanie Savage (Mat), Jessica Cooley, Jenna Cooley, and Garrett Cooley; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Galvin (Jari Lee) of Kane, Pennsylvania; and sister, Cheryl Galvin of Fort Myers, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Yvonne and John; brother, John (Bud) Galvin Jr.; and sisters, Jeanne Wenzel and Connie Siegel.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to American Cancer Society or Joanne's House at Hope Hospice - Bonita Springs, Florida.
