Norman E. Weinandy
Norman E. Weinandy, 92, died early Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living in Galion where he had been a resident for the past year.
He was born April 8, 1932, in Tiffin, to Edward E. and Florence E. (Hoerig) Weinandy. He graduated from Calvert High School in 1950. Norman served in the 223rd Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division of U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and returned to Ohio where he worked as a Tool and Die Man for Cobey Manufacturing, General Motors, and Ford Motor Company from which he retired. Norman met Gloria Ziegler on a double blind date. She is not the girl he started the date with, but she is the one he fell in love with. They were married Aug. 30, 1952, and shared 61 years of marriage when Gloria preceded him in death in August, 2013.
Hard work, kindness, and generosity were the resounding traits that Norman left in this world. There wasn't a family member, neighbor, or child he didn't care about and he took joy, especially in his golden years, in taking care of others' needs. From seeing that Gloria could go to her favorite sports events, to assuring a neighbor child had a bicycle, to having pop and candy favorites of fellow residents and staff in his room, Norman loved taking care of people. He was a jack of nearly all trades, enjoyed fishing, stained glass work, assembling computers, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing BINGO. Norman was a lifelong Catholic and member of AmVets Post 27, American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 1078, and Moose Lodge #669.
Norman is survived by five children, Kathleen Eimer, Norman (Shelly) Weinandy, Gregg (Ellen) Weinandy, Candy Williams, and Kevin Weinandy; eight grandchildren, Johnny (Tara) Lykins Jr., Wendy (Tony) Szekely, Lance Eimer, Erica Weinandy (Craig Goehler), Ethan Weinandy, Evan Weinandy, David Weinandy (Taina Andreotti Sivieri), and Douglas Weinandy; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Kayla, Jillian, Brooklyn, Louis, Lela, and Quenyn; sister, Eugenia Callahan; brother, James Weinandy; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Michael Williams; and sister, Beatrice "Bede" Wahrer.
Norman's services will be Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Visitation for family and friends will be 2-3:55 p.m. Military rites will be given at 4 p.m. by U.S. Army Honor Guard, followed by Funeral Liturgy by Fr. Paul Fahrbach. He will be laid to rest next to Gloria at Oakwood Cemetery privately.
