Richard Schafer Obituary

Richard E. Schafer

Richard E. Schafer, 84, of rural Sycamore, died at 4;35 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at Vancrest of Upper Sandusky. He was born May 21, 1940, in Lykens Township, Crawford County, Ohio, to Robert and Dorotha (Spayth) Schafer. He married Jealea (Dolch) Schafer on September 20 1959, and she survives in rural Sycamore.

Surviving are the following children, Jodi (Tom) Munk, Sandusky, Rod (Cathy) Schafer, rural Sycamore, and Craig (Jenny) Schafer, rural Sycamore. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kayla (Adam) Hamstra, Kory Munk, Kolby Munk, Josh (Toni) Schafer, Christie (Brendon) Reed, Cody Schafer and Levi Schafer; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mike (Karen) Schafer rural Lykens.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Steve Schafer.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of Lykens High School, had worked for 34 years at Timken, Bucyrus, and also farmed.

He was a member of St. John's Baseline United Church of Christ, was a member of Seneca Lodge No.790 F.& A.M. Republic, was a member of Shellman Chapter Model A Club, member of Crawford County Antique Machinery Association and former Lykens Volunteer Fireman, member of former Lykens Conservation Club and at one time was on Wynford School Board.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. John's Baseline United Church of Christ with Pastor Mike Ebersole officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Baseline Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home and also from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Masonic service will be at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Baseline United Church of Christ, Lykens Volunteer Fire Department or Alzheimer Foundation in care of Walton-Moore Funeral Home, P.O. Box 350, Sycamore, Ohio 44882.
